“Learn through practice and treat drawing as a mode of thinking, feeling and inquiry”

Taught by renowned artist and printmaker Dr. Glen Skien, this four-week course introduces participants to a range of drawing techniques using graphite, pen and ink, and mixed media. Designed for beginners to intermediate students, the course explores both objective and expressive approaches to drawing.

Through structured lessons, students will develop skills in gestural mark-making, measure drawing, tonal rendering, and experimental mixed media. Key topics include perspective, composition, light and shadow, and collage techniques. Independent studio practice encourages students to explore their own creative directions.

Materials required will be discussed in the first session, with essential supplies including cartridge paper, graphite pencils, charcoal, and ink.

Dr. Skien, formerly of Griffith University, brings extensive teaching experience and insight into drawing as a mode of thinking and expression. This course offers a dynamic, hands-on exploration of drawing, fostering creativity and technical proficiency.
